The New Twitter has Personality!

Posted on September 27, 2012 by Elizabeth Yarbrough

Twitter has made several design updates so members can showcase more of their personality by making photos & other personal data more prominent on their cover pages. Now you can upload your own header photo on mobile apps for iPad, iPhone, and Android or twitter.com and the same picture will appear anytime your profile is viewed on a phone, tablet, or computer. There is also a new Twitter app available for iPad users.

Your profile pic will now take center stage on the page (rather than in the left-hand corner), resembling the current style of Facebook & Google+. And you will have a background photo to enhance your profile image. In addition, photo streams have been moved up for easier viewing and will now appear below your most recent Tweets on mobile apps. You can simply swipe through the stream or tap a thumbnail to view the fullscreen images.

How to Add or Change your Header

Using Twitter.com:
Go to your profile- the page that is labeled “Me” (not your homepage). Once on your “Me” page, go to Settings and choose “Design” from the left-hand navigation. Scroll to the bottom for the new “Header” option. Here you can customize your header by choosing from different options including background (position & color), link color, etc. Then select an image from your existing library or add a new image from your computer to upload. After you upload the photo of your choice, you can move it around and resize it to adequately fit the header. Be aware of file size limitations, the image size of your original photo cannot exceed 1252×626 pixels or file size of 5MB. Now your new header image (background photo) appears behind your avatar.

Using the new Twitter or other mobile apps:
Select the “Me” tab and select “Edit profile” and choose “Header” to add or change the image. Take a new picture or choose an existing photo. Once you have selected your photo, you will need to resize it or move it around to fit the scale of the header.

No matter what application you use, it is easy & fun to experiment with different header photos and images to express your unique personality on Twitter. Also, be sure to take advantage of the photo stream, now at the top of your page for easy access to share with your friends & followers.
